What did you remodel? Reconfigured kitchen, granite counters, stainless appliances, hardwood and tile floors, new fireplace, built-ins, additional sq ft in several rooms, enhanced lighting, new stair hardware, reconfigured master bath, new powder bath, vaulted ceilings, removed walls, new windows, new wood trim package throughout, We got a whole new house!
What was your reason for remodeling? We bought this home with a major renovation in mind. We’ve remodeled homes in the past, but never a project of this magnitude. Our house was stuck in the 80’s and needed to be made current. Additionally, there were some idiosyncrasies that needed to be addressed.
Why did you choose UBuildIt? UBuildIt provided the expertise and flexibility that allowed us to manage and participate in our project. We would not have been able to do the number of things and the quality of the finishes had we not partnered with UBuildIt. They gave us the confidence to manage such a large process and the expertise to assist in selecting the right subcontractors and provided a framework so that work could proceed in the most appropriate order.
What did the remodel do for your home equity? Our appraisal before the remodel was $400,000. We invested $150,000 into the remodeling project. The appraised value after the remodel is $750-$825,000.
What was the best part of building? It was all fun. We would do it again.
How much time did you spend on the project? Quite a lot. We did all of the electrical, most of the plumbing, part of the tiling, plus light carpentry.
Any other comments? The money saved in managing this project ourselves along with the UBuildIt Consultants allowed us to take on a project of greater scope than we could have if we had used a general contractor. Not only did we get a beautiful new home out of this experience, we feel that we have made lifelong friends with our UBuildIt Consultants as well as several of the professional laborers that helped us re-build our home. Their professionalism and their personal concern for our project was truly a blessing.
